Job Summary

This role will lead the definition and development of our Acuity Commercial Pole and Accessory products which will encompass roadmap management, product lifecycle management, supplier relationships and product launches. This leader will be required to thoroughly understand the competitive landscape, obtain voice of the customer, and develop product specifications to execute the product strategy. As such, the individual should have a strong technical or engineering background capable of interfacing closely with the product development teams and suppliers. This individual will work closely with other product managers and stakeholders (marketing, business development, sales) within Acuity Brands and more broadly with our suppliers to define and deliver world-class products to the market. Must be highly creative and comfortable working with a wide degree of independence and latitude. Must be highly effective at relationship building and maintenance and this individual must thrive in a fast-paced environment. Create and define a differentiated advantage for ABL in a sustainable manner that drives revenue and market share. Drive detailed solutions through the organization and collaborate with agency partners to educate and develop winning product strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate voice of customer and market opportunities into technical and actionable product design, manufacturing, and supply chain specifications to grow market share
  • Collaborate with the team to develop portfolio strategy and roadmap (i.e. situational analysis, market landscape, baseline for roadmap, etc.)
  • Understand technical requirements of customer applications including product types, environmental conditions, regional requirements and codes.
  • Leverage and influence Acuity’s supply chain and sourcing strategies to maintain a sustainable competitive advantage.
  • Execute the business strategy and new product roadmap
  • Work with internal stakeholders to meet P&L objectives and financial goals
  • Drive quality improvements, cost reductions, and feature enhancements for established products.
  • Conduct ongoing sales, market, and competitive trend analysis to ensure the product exceeds market needs

Organizational Connectivity and Support (40%)

  • Foster strong partnerships with third-party suppliers to ensure consistent quality, service excellence, and timely delivery of products.
  • Support internal partners with technical knowledge as a product and policy expert
  • Drive supply chain transformation by working with focus factories, regional distribution centers, sourcing and third-party suppliers. •
  • Build relationships with sales to help secure orders and gain market feedback

Product Development (20%)

  • Be a thought/design partner with engineering and supply chain in the conceptual and detailed product design. Obtain Voice of the Customer along the design journey.
  • Lead commercialization/validation of product and technology through supply chain, driving necessary supply chain transformation to deliver the industry’s best service model.
  • Obtain voice of the customer to develop the new product specifications
  • Develop business cases, working with organization partners to develop detailed financial models and targets.
  • Train the sales force and develop technical assets and documentation for product launches
  • Set price and manage margin based on market, trends, price bands, etc.

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor Degree
  • 3+ years of product management, product support, tech support or engineering experience preferred
  • Strong technical product background 
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of mechanical and structural concepts
  • Ability to effectively develop, communicate and execute product strategy/roadmap
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes (extrusion, fabrication, casting, welding)
  • An understanding of financial principles (P&L, Cash Flow, NPV) and the ability to evaluate the impact of business decisions on the program’s financial goals.
  • Ability to create project vision and goals, with the ability to mobilize a team to achieve shared goals and success criteria.
  • Strong project management skills are required 
  • Ability to work across the organization to align resources to projects
  • Ability to learn, retain, communicate technical product information
  • Ability to create, manage and sustain influential business relationships
