Job Summary
The Bill of Materials Manager is a working manager responsible for both creating Bills of Materials (B.O.M.) and leading a small team (1–2 analysts) who support order processing for customer-configured catalog and non-catalog fixtures. This role is hands-on, with the majority of time spent performing B.O.M. creation and review work, while also providing day-to-day team leadership, guidance, and coordination. Accuracy, speed, and a deep understanding of product nomenclature, fixture configurations, and electrical components are essential.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
Personally create and review B.O.M.s for customer-specific orders, ensuring accuracy in fixture configurations, wiring, ballasts, and component selection.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Product Management, and Order Entry to clarify complex or custom configurations.
Balance personal workload with team oversight, helping prioritize urgent requests and resolve escalated issues.
Review order nomenclature to ensure correctness and alignment with customer expectations.
Lead and support a small team of B.O.M. Analysts, providing technical direction, coaching, and quality oversight.
Monitor team performance and maintain documentation of best practices and procedures.
Recommend and help implement process improvements to enhance quality and efficiency in B.O.M. generation.
Train and mentor team members to improve speed, accuracy, and product knowledge.
Skills
Skills and Minimum Experience Required
Preferred Skills and Experience
3+ years of experience creating B.O.M.s or in a product configuration role, preferably in a manufacturing or order-fulfillment environment.
Full product knowledge (all products) down to the detail level: assembly, wiring, options, accessories, packaging, etc.
Nomenclature expertise.
Proficient in operating systems such as Oracle, AutoCAD, Excel, Report 2000, and Internet-based tools.
Proven knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes.
Ability to work independently while supporting and guiding others in a fast-paced environment.
Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
Other
Minimum Education:
Associate’s Degree or Technical Degree or equivalent.
Preferred Education:
Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum Experience:
Relevant product configuration or BOM creation experience (3+ years).
Preferred Experience:
Industry experience in manufacturing or order fulfillment.

The range for this position is $100,700.00 to $181,200.00. Placement within this range may vary, depending on the applicant’s experience and geographic location.
