About this Team:
The Electronics & Light Engine group supports all Acuity portfolios (Indoor, Outdoor, Industrial, OEM, Residential) and directly impacts revenue and margin through new product development, value engineering, enhancements, and technology integration. Electronics Engineering plays a central role in illumination system strategy, innovation, and lifecycle management, working cross-functionally with Engineering, Optics, Supply Chain, Finance, and Product Management. The team is seeking a Sr. Electronics Design Engineer to independently drive innovation and contribute to product excellence and business growth.
This role leads new product development and sustaining engineering for Electronics & Light Engines, including hardware design, firmware development, LED and driver selection, PCB layout, and component integration. Responsibilities include prototyping, testing, cost reduction, field issue resolution, and manufacturing support. The Senior Electronics Engineer manages multiple projects, collaborates cross-functionally, mentors engineers, supports product launches, and applies LEAN methodologies to improve efficiency and processes.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
What This Role Owns
Own end-to-end electronics design, including LED selection, driver integration, PCB design (Altium), system controls, and embedded firmware development for microcontroller-based lighting systems. Work closely with the Optics team to meet lumen output and efficiency targets. Take designs from concept through validation and production release.
Drive new product development and product improvements by translating requirements into reliable, manufacturable designs. Improve existing products through cost reduction and performance optimization while ensuring compliance with reliability, manufacturability, and testability standards.
Lead multiple concurrent projects and ensure milestones and deliverables are achieved. Mentor junior engineers and promote strong design practices and technical excellence.
Support testing and product validation by coordinating thermal and photometric testing, reviewing performance data, and implementing design improvements. Ensure products meet customer, regulatory, and internal requirements.
Improve processes and manufacturing support by leading continuous improvement and LEAN initiatives. Resolve field and production issues in partnership with manufacturing teams to maintain quality and production continuity.
Skills and Minimum Experience Required

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with focus in Electronics (Master’s preferred)

Minimum 4 years of experience in electronics and firmware engineering design

Ability to independently design electronics hardware

Ability to independently develop microprocessor-based firmware
-
Strong proficiency with schematic capture and PCB layout tools (Altium preferred)

Experience with circuit analysis and simulation tools (e.g., SPICE)
-
Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and basic 2D CAD tools

Solid understanding of thermal design, heat transfer, electrical isolation, EMI, and cost trade-offs

Experience with prototyping, validation, and reliability testing

Ability to use bench-top test equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, power analyzers, DVMs, spectrum analyzers, surge/EMI generators, and related tools

Knowledge of electronic component selection, tolerance analysis, reliability analysis, and system-level considerations

Understanding of PCBA manufacturing processes, factory testing methods, and PCB materials

Experience applying LEAN and/or Six Sigma methodologies (standard work, 5WHY, A3, DMAIC, etc.)

Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, including technical documentation and presentations

Ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional team environments

Ability to adapt to changing business and engineering priorities

Knowledge of applicable standards such as UL, DLC, and Energy Star

Ability to travel approximately 10 percent as required

Ability to lift and manage products or equipment up to 50 lbs

The range for this position is $83,300.00 to $149,900.00. Placement within this range may vary, depending on the applicant’s experience and geographic location.
