Job Summary & Location

The Laboratory Technician team works onsite from Acuity's Innovation Center in Des Plaines, IL, a state-of-the-art facility with design certification, photometry, and validation equipment. Join a close-knit team dedicated to conducting testing on new and existing products. The team focuses on continuously improving processes and practices in testing while learning from the best in lighting and sharing your ideas.

 

This role works onsite in Des Plaines, IL.

Primary Responsibilities Include

  • Certification testing to ensure products meet internal and external specifications, including UL, CSA, ANSI, IEC, and NVLAP. 
    • Conduct testing based on adapting the generic certification body test method to the specific Acuity products, including set-up, testing, reporting, and interpreting results to product groups.
    • Test digital, analog, and mixed signal electronic circuits for lighting and lighting controls. Responsibilities require soldering and thermocouple adhesion to board-level components such as LEDs and resistors.
  • Photometric testing utilizing a goniophotometer and integrating sphere to measure total flux output, spatial intensity distribution, and spectral distribution per IES, ANSI, and other applicable standards.
  • Validation testing to measure electrical, mechanical, environmental, and IEC according to Acuity's internal specifications.
  • Maintaining lab space to meet 5S goals.
  • Adapting and modifying to improve testing performance as needs arise.
  • Use Lean tools and KPI measures to maintain a consistent flow through the lab, identify areas/activities needing improvement, and help fulfill Lean initiatives.

Qualifications

  • An Associate's degree in a related field is required. A Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Experience related to electrical systems testing is required.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Able to lift 40 lbs based on business needs. 
  • LED driver testing knowledge and LIMS experience is preferred.
