Job Summary
Responsible for the design and development of robust, scalable, and manufacturable test equipment. Translates engineering drafts into formal, production-ready designs while ensuring compliance with industry standards and internal guidelines. Audits engineering documentation and processes to identify opportunities for improvement in manufacturability, standardization, and long-term reliability. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to implement design enhancements that reduce complexity, improve durability, and optimize cost without compromising performance. Drives continuous improvement initiatives to ensure test systems are easy to manufacture, maintain, and sustain throughout their lifecycle in high-volume production environments.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Mechanical and Electrical Design of Specialized Test Equipment
Designs robust mechanical and electrical components for industrial test systems using SolidWorks Mechanical and Electrical, including the development of fixtures to secure and correctly position products within the equipment, ensuring manufacturability, scalability, and long-term reliability.
- PCB Design for Signal Control
Creates and optimizes PCB layouts using Altium for signal control and integration within test equipment, guaranteeing proper functionality, durability, and compliance with design standards.
- Electrical and Mechanical Assessment of Existing Equipment
Performs detailed evaluations and documentation of current test systems to support redesign, upgrades, and standardization initiatives.
- Engineering Draft Review and Formalization
Converts preliminary engineering drafts into formal, production-ready documentation that meets internal standards and industry best practices.
- Audit and Continuous Improvement
Audits engineering designs and processes to identify opportunities for standardization, improved manufacturability, and enhanced robustness for sustained production use.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
Works closely with Digital Focus Factory and Process Development teams within Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, as well as manufacturing and quality groups, to ensure seamless integration of designs and provide support during production ramp-up and troubleshooting.
- Documentation and Library Management
Maintains accurate design records, BOMs, and technical specifications, while managing shared design libraries to enable efficient reuse and consistency across projects.
- Development and Modification of Building and Installation Layouts
Designs and updates layouts for buildings and equipment installations to optimize space utilization, workflow efficiency, and compliance with safety and operational standards.
Skills and Minimum Experience Required
- Mechanical Design Expertise (SolidWorks Mechanical – Advanced)
- Electrical Design Skills (SolidWorks Electrical – Advanced)
- PCB Design and Signal Control (Altium Designer – Intermediate)
- Engineering Documentation & Standards (ISO/ASME Documentation Standards – Basic)
- Layout Development for Facilities and Installations (AutoCAD – Basic)
- Audit and Continuous Improvement (DFM, Robust Design Principles – Intermediate)
- Cross-Functional Collaboration (Digital Focus Factory & Process Development)
- Library and Data Management (Microsoft Azure, OneDrive, SharePoint – Intermediate)
- Project Management (Agile Methodology – Intermediate)
- Soft Skills (Problem-Solving, Attention to Detail, Communication)
Education (minimum education required)
Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent
Experience (minimum experience required)
0 to 2 years
Preferred Education (i.e. type of degree)
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Design, Mechatronics, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or related field. Master’s degree preferred
Preferred Experience (i.e. industry experience)
Test Equipment design experience
