Job Summary
Acuity is where bold ideas become intelligent, connected products. As a Test Automation Engineer, you will join a high-energy, collaborative engineering team working with cutting-edge software, firmware, IoT and AI technologies. In this senior role, you will bring deep technical experience and strong leadership behaviours to the design and delivery of automated test solutions that improve confidence, reliability and speed across web, mobile and embedded products.
You will combine hands-on test automation expertise with sound engineering judgement and practical experience of AI-assisted development. Working across product, software, firmware, hardware, architecture and quality teams, you will turn complex requirements into robust test solutions, contribute to technical decisions, support and mentor colleagues, accelerate defect investigation and help improve our automation frameworks and CI/CD capabilities. This is an opportunity to make a visible technical contribution and help shape the future of AI-augmented quality engineering at Acuity.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Design, develop, execute and maintain scalable automated test solutions for web, mobile, firmware, embedded and connected-system applications.
- Use AI-assisted engineering tools across requirements analysis, test design, automation-code development, test-data generation, log analysis, defect triage, documentation and knowledge discovery, while independently validating every output.
- Collaborate with Product Owners, Squad Leads, architects, product managers, QA engineers and hardware, firmware and software developers to translate customer, business and technical requirements into comprehensive test strategies, plans, cases and acceptance criteria.
- Contribute senior technical expertise to test framework architecture, coding standards, peer reviews and risk-based test coverage, identifying critical workflows, edge cases and failure scenarios.
- Develop and review application and automation code using relevant technologies such as C#, Python, Selenium, Git, SQL, Node.js, NuGet, Azure and React.
- Analyse test outcomes, logs and system behaviour to isolate failures and drive root-cause investigations with cross-functional engineering teams; document and track defects with clear reproduction steps and supporting evidence.
- Design custom test environments using products, off-the-shelf equipment, engineering tools and purpose-built hardware, and support the recreation and resolution of complex customer site and field issues.
- Help continuously improve automated testing within CI/CD pipelines, including execution reliability, reporting, traceability, quality gates, framework reusability and test efficiency.
- Participate actively in Agile and scaled planning activities, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, retrospectives and PI Planning within a SAFe environment, contributing quality, dependency, risk and test-readiness perspectives.
- Demonstrate leadership through technical influence, dependable delivery, mentoring and knowledge sharing; evaluate emerging AI and test technologies and champion responsible practices for security, confidentiality, data protection and intellectual property.
Skills and Minimum Experience Required
- Significant professional experience in test automation or quality engineering, including delivery of complex automation solutions and collaboration across multidisciplinary product teams.
- Strong programming and scripting capability in one or more languages such as Python, C# or JavaScript, with experience building maintainable automation frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with Selenium, Appium, Postman/Newman or comparable API, web and mobile testing tools, plus command-line, diagnostic, data-logging or engineering-developed tools.
- Experience using test management tools to organise test cases, plan and track execution, maintain requirements traceability, record evidence, report quality status and support defect lifecycle management.
- Experience testing software, firmware, embedded, IoT or connected products and translating complex requirements into structured, risk-based test solutions.
- Deep knowledge of debugging, fault isolation, defect investigation and root-cause analysis, with the ability to communicate complex findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience with source control, code review, CI/CD pipelines and collaborative engineering workflows, including the improvement of test reliability, traceability and coverage.
- Practical understanding of AI-assisted engineering workflows, including how to create, review and validate AI-generated code, tests, analysis and documentation responsibly.
- Strong leadership behaviours, critical thinking and communication skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions, mentor colleagues, work within an established technical direction and drive continuous improvement through individual contribution.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Engineering degree, Associate degree or equivalent qualification in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Test Engineering or a related discipline.
- Three to five years or more of relevant professional experience in testing, quality engineering or test automation.
- Practical experience with GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT or comparable AI-assisted engineering technologies.
- Experience using AI for test-case generation, automation development, test-data creation, log analysis, defect triage, documentation or technical knowledge discovery.
- Experience evaluating AI-generated outputs for correctness, completeness, maintainability, security, traceability and potential bias.
- Experience with SAFe, cloud platforms, automated quality gates, IoT or embedded products, custom test environments, TDD, BDD or risk-based testing.
