Job Summary

We are looking for a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join our Digital Centre of Excellence (DCoE) in Cork. In this role, you will help shape the quality strategy for cloud-native digital commerce and AI-enabled platforms that support Acuity’s evolving technology ecosystem.

This is a hands-on engineering role focused on automation, continuous testing, and quality enablement. You will influence engineering practices, improve delivery pipelines, and help teams build quality into every stage of the software development lifecycle.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks for APIs, backend services, and cloud-native applications.
  • Collaborate with software engineers to integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Define and drive quality engineering practices across multiple product teams.
  • Develop automated functional, integration, regression, performance, and end-to-end test suites.
  • Partner with engineering teams to identify quality risks and establish appropriate test strategies.
  • Ensure quality gates are embedded within development workflows and release processes.
  • Support root cause analysis and troubleshooting across distributed systems.
  • Champion shift-left testing practices and foster a culture of quality engineering.
  • Evaluate and introduce new testing tools, frameworks, and approaches where they provide measurable value.

Skills and Minimum Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Strong software engineering background with experience developing automated test solutions.
  • Proficiency in Python or another modern programming language.
  • Experience testing REST APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
  • Experience with PyTest, Playwright, Selenium, or equivalent frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms, preferably Azure.
  • Experience with Docker and CI/CD practices.
  • Strong understanding of software testing methodologies and quality engineering principles.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience with Kubernetes and cloud-native architectures.
  • Experience with performance, load, and resilience testing.
  • Knowledge of security testing and secure development practices.
  • Experience testing AI-enabled applications and services.
  • Experience building test automation frameworks from the ground up.
